lisa piccirillo: What's New?
cutting edge of the campfire and the countdown begins - May 3, 2008
i'm thrilled to announce my solo debut at the very prestigious club passim in boston! each memorial and labor day, passim hosts their cutting edge of the campfire festival. i've been to many, but this will be my first campfire performance! it always proves to be a phenomenal collaboration of young folkies. come check out a FULL memorial day weekend of great music. i'll be playing in the round with john gerard, josiah altschuler, and jess tardy. check out the SHOWS page for details.
in other news, we've finished up the recording process for my first record!!! i could not be happier with how this last year has come to fruition. syd (my wonderful producer) and i can't wait to share the finished product with you. stay tuned for details regarding the autumn release of the record and shows that will come along with it.
thank you all for your support along the way, and i hope to see you in boston!!
xoxo,
lisa p
p.s. check out a few new PHOTOS from our final time in the studio
2008: the year of the potato - January 7, 2008
NPR informed me the other day that 2008 has been named by the UN as the international year of the potato. noted as a staple food in the diet of the world’s population, the potato can play an important role in eradicating poverty. a shameless potato lover, i say bring on the spuds! (they’re just so versatile.)
now, not to devalue the potato, but 2008 should also be known as the year of my debut record! we’re coming down the home stretch in many ways, and have had a blast all along the way. i was very fortunate this past year to have had so many of my musical dreams come true, and with so many truly wonderful people.
we wrapped up the year with a productive studio session, which included appearances by steve belleville, banjo/mandolinist extraordinaire, and tim blane, who should never do anything in life but play the piano (or anything else with keys). syd and i are very proud of the way the record sounds and can’t wait to share it with you.
i also got a chance last month to briefly share the stage with the lovely edie carey and rose cousins, two of my very favorite lady singer-songwriters. that night i met elana arian, who lended her stellar string skills but is also a very talented singer-songwriter, along with the fabulous photographers joy and julie guest, who documented us all on stage together. be sure to check out the PHOTOS section for shots from the living room in nyc, the studio view of the lovely blanket of snow that is currently draped over vermont, and fun times all around.
i hope everyone is happy and healthy and that this year will bring lots of smiles (and potatoes). miss you all and happy new year!!!
xoxo,
lisa p

i'm one lucky girl... - October 3, 2007
i could not be happier with the progression of my biggest project to date. this weekend we had aaron cowan to the studio to lay down some rockin’ guitar tracks. we also had singer/songwriter patrick thomas (
www.myspace.com/patrickthomasmusic) in to lend an ear as well as his guitar skills. syd and i certainly picked up a guitar or two, plunked some piano, and even learned how to play the harmonium! what is a harmonium, you may ask? (it’s ok, i didn’t know either.) check out the PHOTOS section for shots of that and the rest of the fun.
speaking of learning, which is certainly one of my great passions, this process has been filled with it. i’ve affirmed that how a producer makes you feel is equally as important as how he makes your music sound. syd clearly knew this before i did, because he has exceeded every possible expectation in both realms. i’ve also learned that the more beautiful the environment, the more creative i feel; it doesn’t get more beautiful than charles eller studios in charlotte, vermont (the PHOTOS will barely do it justice). it’s quite an indescribable feeling to suddenly be reminded why it is one does what she does. and while i’m comfortable and content with my life on a daily basis, this weekend has validated that i am, indeed, headed on the right path...and with the right companions...
until next time, take a trip to vermont. i promise you’ll feel as refreshed as i do.
hugs, and almost-peak foliage,

good day sunshine! - September 3, 2007
helloooooooo everyone, remember me? i disappeared for the summer, but despite my lack of updates, i have been working hard to bring you something new and wonderful.
the summer has been full of emotional homework, songwriting and making sure all my songs are in tip-top shape for the record. i'm thrilled to announce that i've been working with my good friend SYD, whose title is producer, but whose role seems far too big for that little word. this record has taken such shape with his guidance, and i can't wait to share it with you. not to mention he's a ton of fun and keeps me smiling. an independent singer-songwriter himself, you can check him out (and should) at
www.syd-music.com and at
www.myspace.com/syd
back in july, syd and i were in the studio with todd gevry and seth barbiero to lay down drum and bass tracks, respectively. check out the PHOTOS section for some shots from the gorgeous charles eller studios in charlotte, vt. our time there was productive and peaceful.
we're looking forward to some more time in the studio this month, with more special guests lending their talents to the record. more updates to come!!!
myCovers are still up on mySpace, so be sure to stop by and check out my favorite songs by edie carey, patty griffin, rose cousins and deb talan. please visit my blog there to see a fabulous sketch that my good friend doug salati sent me called "i'll just row", inspired by my cover of rose cousins' "home". you can check out his outstanding artwork at
www.dougsalati.com
in other news, all is well. i can't believe it's already labor day, the "official" end of summer. i'll be taking full advantage of the sunshine until the chill rolls in.
be well.
hugs,
lisa p
myCovers on mySpace: WEEK 4 - DEB TALAN - May 24, 2007
well helloooooooo.
ok, i'm cutting to the chase cause she deserves it. deb talan rules. she's awesome. you may know her as the female voice of the weepies, who are also awesome. the cover i bring you is one from her stellar solo career, which is certainly worth checking out (but she doesn't have an official solo myspace). her voice is friendly, her lyrics cut deep, and her writing is soothing and familiar.
"ashes on your eyes" is only a taste of the beauty on "a bird flies out". i hope it can become your new favorite record, like it became mine.

myCovers on mySpace: WEEK 3 - ROSE COUSINS - May 17, 2007
hey all,
boy the weeks are flying by, but i’m making sure to enjoy the spring. just a quick note to fill you in on my latest cover, which i’m bringing to you in hopes that you’ll fall in love with any of these artists as much as i have. they truly deserve your support.
myCovers on mySpace: WEEK 3 – ROSE COUSINS
while sarah mclachlan will always top the amazing canadian list for me, rose has certainly secured her spot very nearby. i first saw rose live at edie carey’s most recent cd release in september. she sang harmony on much of edie’s record and rounded out the songs so wonderfully on stage. but it was her solo performance that really knocked me over. her humble and friendly persona were endearing and her voice was so smooth and pure. her songs are like a warm blanket or a cool breeze, whichever you need. “home” was written for a couple who are so ridiculously in love that both edie and rose have been inspired to tell their story through song.

myCovers on mySpace: WEEK 2 - PATTY GRIFFIN - May 11, 2007
what a day. last night was a great time playing the living room with miss edie carey (thanks edie!!) and today, i'm heading to the first preview of the patty griffin musical "10 million miles" with my dearest friend (thanks jonny!!)
for those of you who don't know patty griffin...shame, shame on you. she is the inspiration for many a girl with a guitar. her powerful words guide, haunt, and sooth. her ridiculous voice is capable of anything. she has written songs for some of the best in the business, but i prefer when she sings them herself.
there are so many songs i wish i could share with you, but i've chosen one from her brand new album, "children running through". patty says that "heavenly day" is the only love song she's ever written...and it's for her dog. adorable.

myCovers on mySpace: WEEK 1 - EDIE CAREY - May 4, 2007
hope everyone is enjoying this fabulous weather. well into flip-flop season (about time), my life has been filled with getting outside and getting to shows of some fabulous fellow artists. my dear friend jonathan whitton impressed new york recently with his touching song stylings, phenomenal voice, and witty banter as always. check him out at
www.jonwhitton.com!
syd has just released a new (awesome) album and is rocking his way through a city near you. visit
www.syd-music.com for tour dates, etc.
ok, now to the headline. while i'm busy recording and planning for the release of my debut record, i wanted to showcase some favorite fellow artists via mySpace. mySpace is a wonderful network of friends and a great way to find new music, which you can access even if you haven't fully jumped on the virtual bandwagon yet!
so...starting today, i will be adding one cover song per week to mySpace to salute some artists i greatly admire.
myCovers on mySpace: WEEK 1 - EDIE CAREY
(i know you're shocked)
edie's songwriting and performing have taught me so much about becoming a better artist and a better woman. i am also fortunate to have spent some time with her, shared the stage with her and been encouraged by her. in celebration of my show with her next week, and in honor of her wonderfulness: i give you my rendition of "without a fight" off her latest release, "another kind of fire".

spring has almost sprung! - April 8, 2007
...and you know what that means...productivity, baby animals, crocuses (croci?), and flip flops! had to forsake them for my weekend in vt, but once it's 50 degrees on a regular basis, i won't see real shoes again until october!
beyond flip-flops, this spring will bring exciting experiences and opportunities:
the gregory douglass band will be appearing on tim kavanagh's late night saturday, a local burlington tv show, which will air april 14, 2007. if you're in the vt area, check out
www.latenightsaturday.com for details!
i will be debuting my solo material at the living room in new york on thursday, may 10th opening for the fantastic edie carey! her fans will agree with me - if you don't love her yet, give her four minutes of your time and you'll be hooked.
www.ediecarey.com
in other news, my album is still coming together. i'm thrilled to announce the participation of the wonderfully talented todd gevry on drums, seth barbiero on bass, and aaron cowan on guitar, who've been greatly inspiring so far. other special guests (as well as recording dates, etc) are yet to be confirmed, so keep an eye out for updates.
whatever you celebrated this week, i hope you had a wonderful holiday.
happy spring!!
with love and croci,

happiness is....singing with edie carey! - February 11, 2007
just this week i got a chance to sing with one of my independent singer/songwriter idols - miss edie carey. i've said it before, her songs make my heart feel like it's been put through a blender - and i like it. in addition to her beautiful talent, she is also a very genuine, kind and gracious person. please check her out at
www.ediecarey.com
check the PHOTOS section for evidence of my dream come true, as well as
www.myspace.com/lisapiccirillo for a VIDEO!!
speaking of myspace - stay tuned for my profile makeover...coming soon.
stay warm, spring is slowly on its way....

5-4-3-2-1... - January 3, 2007
happy new year! welcome to 2007 everyone...may all your wishes for this year come true.
so here we are in the aftermath of the holidays...befuddled by the sudden return to routine (do i have to go to school?), overfed and swearing to not eat the leftover cheesecake (just one bite?), and already trying hard to keep our resolutions (just a LITTLE bite?). i hear ya. and i hear the cheesecake; it calls to me. :-)
in addition to my new year's greeting, i wanted to send a reminder to all my hometown area buddies that i'll be playing tomorrow night (jan 4th @ 9) at thataway cafe in greenwich. i'm thrilled to be a part of their brand new songwriters' den series. so come eat, drink, and listen!
to those of you everywhere else, i'll see you soon enough. until then, eat the cheesecake - it won't kill you.
with love,
lisa p
i'm dreaming of a white christmas... - December 16, 2006
...because it's still 50 degrees!! now, i'm not one to beg for snow...but this global warming situation is making it difficult to feel the holiday cheer.
thanks to all who came out to gregory douglass' "up & away" cd release shows. the band had a blast in saratoga, boston, new york, and burlington. check out the PHOTOS section for some tour shots...and if anyone has performance photos of the higher ground show (12.03), feel free to send them this way!
i'm looking forward to kicking off the new year with a hometown show on january 4th. thataway cafe in greenwich, ct is offering a brand new songwriters' series which i'm thrilled to be a part of.
hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season filled with good friends, good food, and mariah carey's christmas album (no matter what you celebrate)!
let it snow,
lisa p
i will jump in a pile of leaves this fall - November 6, 2006
happy november everyone!
hope you're all enjoying hot cider, leftover halloween candy, and
raking (of course). some of you are probably even enjoying some snow
by now!!!
it's been a while since my last update, but i've been busy saving
funds and making plans for my upcoming CD. since i like surprises
(and am hoping that you do too), i'm trying to keep info about the
record top secret. however, i will tell you that i am thrilled and
honored to be working with these outstandingly talented musicians -
and we've had a blast so far....so stay tuned.
in other news, this is a big month for my buddy gregory douglass.
that's right, greg is releasing his SIXTH record, "up & away" (which
i must say is quite sophisticated and very fun to sing along to).
i'm super psyched to reunite with the full band for shows in saratoga
springs, boston, new york city, and burlington! check the SHOWS page or
www.gregorydouglass.com for details.
until next time, happy thanksgiving everyone...hope to see you
soon!!!

hope all is well and you're staying cool, swimming, eating watermelon and hot dogs, and otherwise satisfying your inner child this summer. can you believe it's august?!
well, i can't think of a better way to kick off august than my first hometown show since..........high school?!? i think it has actually been that long! and while i'll try my hardest not to let it be that long till next time...those of you in the greenwich area should definitely come have a little reunion. this show is also special because it will mark the first time i will share the stage with my wonderfully talented brother, TJ, and his band, KNOCK OUT KINGS (opening the show with a special acoustic set)! you can also drink excellent coffee while listening.

lovin summer... - July 2, 2006
happy summer everyone. it's officially begun now...fireworks, grills, bonfires, sun, sand between my toes, swimming...and, of course, spf 50 (my best friend). hope you're all enjoying the long weekend and are eating lots of hot dogs and potato salad.
i'm so thrilled for the gigs i have this summer: my first solo show at the legendary caffe lena in saratoga springs, my first hometown show in YEARS at arcadia coffee in old greenwich, and up the ladder to the roof of the tang museum at skidmore college. all of these shows will be very special to me for different reasons, so please come join the fun (all ages welcome)!
in other exciting july news, i can't wait to collaborate with fellow singer/songwriter christopher dallman, who gregory douglass and i met while playing out in LA. he's rarely on the east coast, so now is your chance to catch him at the living room in new york with me singing harmony to his gorgeous songs!
the album ball is still rolling...i couldn't be happier so far. i'll be recording with wonderful people in a wonderful place (vermont) in august and september (which, if you know vermont, you know is the most wonderful time to be there). more info later...

coming together - May 5, 2006
without giving too much away, i'm pleased to say that i'm officially in the early stages of producing my first full-length record. i feel as though i'm finally ready as a songwriter to put forth a product that i will be proud of, and that the people i've met in the last few years will be quite instrumental (pun intended) in its creation. with loads of talent willing to help out in the production and design realms, the ball is rolling. keep in mind that this is the kind of ball that rolls very slowly, but i'm just too excited to not let you know!
in other news, i'm in the process of booking a college tour for the fall. i'm planning on mostly shows in the northeast, but wherever you are, if your college is in need of more acoustic music (whose isn't?!), please spread the word and drop me a line at lisa@lisapiccirillo.com to let me know!
thanks to everyone who came out for april's shows. it meant so much to be supported by my friends as well as my former students and their families. check out a few new photos added from the skidmore show.
until next time, enjoy the springtime.

spring has sprung... - April 7, 2006
...and i hope you’re enjoying it as much as i am. it’s amazing what a little fresh air and sun can do for the soul. i also recommend listening to patty griffin’s “flaming red” album (or whatever floats your boat as much as that one floats mine) at full volume in the car with all the windows down and the sunroof open; it’s very therapeutic.
now down to news…if you’re in the capital district, you’ll be seeing a lot of me this spring and summer. you can find me this week:
monday april 10 @ russell sage college in troy, ny
thursday april 13 @ skidmore college in saratoga springs, ny
check the shows page for more details and other upcoming shows, and be sure to check out the photos page for some shots of the recent gregory douglass band show in burlington.
hope to see you soon!
roll your windows down,

happy new year - January 7, 2006
hello folks and happy new year. hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season, found some time to relax, and made some great resolutions to be broken. :-)
so i'm happy to announce that 2006 looks like the year of continued independence for me. i've learned a lot from the amazing gregory douglass, and i'm excited to get my own thing going. thanks to all of you for being so supportive of our collaboration. i feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet so many of you through gregory. make sure to keep an eye on him at

the land of port - December 12, 2005
hello, from oregon. we're happy to be here with acoustic minds. these girls are truly amazing and fun. oregon...my 27th state. yesterday, washington became my 28th. i think my 30th will be kentucky. i love this...traveling.
los angeles was gorgeous. what's not to like? perfect temeratures, sunny skies.
and now it's cold.
so we'll be coming home for the holidays, and experiencing the lovely edie carey for a holidayesque party in honor of gregory's birthday, for which i will willingly be kicking into martha-stewart-mode.
in other exciting news concerning edie carey, i will be opening for her on january 13th at 135 pearl in burlington, vt!
that's all for now, folks. stay warm.
